Had the privilege of visiting and lunch last Friday, Aug.20, 2010. Was one of the most enjoyable tours I have ever had. The lunch was simple delicious and the guides were most helpful and informative. A lovely day and trip. Thanks to the Friends of Mont Helena for a job well done.

The house looks great. My great grandparents lived there in the late 40's, when the house was divided into apartments. My grandparents lived in one of the tenent houses back behind the mound house in the early 50's. I think they rented from a Mr. Carpenter. Family friends lived in the mound house at this time. My mom and 2 of the kids contracted polio during this time. My mom remembers playing in the house and also being scared to go to the bathroom at night because you had to pass the basement stairs to get there. I've been there a couple of times. Once in mid 70's, after attending an uncle's funeral at Glen Alan and once in early 90's. Seems like there were 100 steps going up to the house from the front. Not sure. I know there were alot. I am so happy to see that life is being brought back into the house. It is truly a beautiful place. It was really amazing to find out that my family lived in "The Bride of Annendale" house at one time.

I am the grandson of Ayleen Graft Deaton. Drick has done a wonderful job of restoring one of the grandest homes I have ever seen.
